Over the weekend I bought the latest course from Pajama Affiliates – Keyword Research and SEO Tutorials for Beginners.
I might not be a beginner but there is plenty I don’t know and I was sure that they’d be plenty of great stuff in the course for beginners and beyond based on the other Pajama Affiliates courses I’ve gone through.
First up before getting on to the course is a quick look through …
The Sales Letter
There’s a good opening about why you need keyword research if you want to make money from blogging – if you don’t do it you’ll be writing for no-one although they put it better in the sales letter – “spinning wheels in the mud”
I like that they mention it is a combination of strong SEO and quality content that is needed to develop a business that will stand the test of time.
Next is a strong positive statement about internet sales and affiliate marketing continuing to grow strongly.
Next there is a list of what’s in the course – 6 great things to learn. Looking forward to going through some of them again. If you’re new or struggling this would be good place to start with SEO – going through these.
In the yellow box that follows is again the importance of amazing content and that good SEO supports it not the other way around it.
I like the point to about building a business step by step not some “here today, gone tomorrow” business loophole.
Then there is a good introduction section to the two coaches – Robin Cockrell and Lesley Stevens. Great bios and I do like their approach – nothing over the top or hyped up. Nice.
I like the section that follows letting you know who it is for.
For the first week it mentions that there is a private Facebook group. Hopefully they’ll extend so others can benefit from what is asked there – I guess you can always sign up for their main group ans ask questions there if they don’t
There’s a great testimonial from an experienced SEO’er who has been through the course saying how much she has got oout for it which confirmed my thoughts that it would be for beginners and beyond. (I’m still sure it won’t be too advanced for beginners).
Now it’s on to the …
The Buying Process
Easy and straightforward for me. There were no upsells on the way through. I was taken to paypal after pressing the buy button. After going through that bit I was taken to a membership page with a link to the program. I also received an email with my log in details.
What Do You Get
Clicking on the links takes you to the course page which has all the content of course. It is a mixture of video and text. It looks like there is plenty in there too, from my quick scan through the page. Back to the top to get into it properly:
It starts with a quick introduction video after the link for the FaceBook group. Looking through the Facebook group questions it looks like they are going to add more videos to the main course that answer many of the questions asked in there. Good one.
The introduction video on how they look at the relationship between content and keywords. Also there is a good point on understanding people who are typing in those keywords into the search engine.
Next up is a good clear infographic showing the process to go through on writing and publishing a post and where SEO fits in.
Next is some good tips on why keywords are important and again about the importance of quality content and when to find keywords. It’s a good approach and way to think about it.
Next is a good check list to use when you come to write your next post before you write about it and before even looking at keywords.
They do use a paid tool and it is a good one for their keyword research. They do mention a free plug-in for where to put the keyword but there isn’t an explanation as to what it’s for in the text or what it is (You can ask in the mastermind group and you will get a good answer or Google).
It’s a bit confusing this section but there is a video that follows. You do need to refresh the page to watch the videos. This video is about 12 minutes long.
It starts by showing you how to look at keywords and how to search looking for them. It’s clear and easy to follow. There’s a good example used to illustrate the keyword type you want to be ranking for.
That helps, it doesn’t clear it all up and doesn’t explain how to interpret the results in the keyword tool – it’s not difficult but some guidance would have been nice. The big point is on how to use it with Google and how to think while you find keywords for your post.
There is a link to a free keyword tools you can use in place of the preferred tool but no explanation on how to use.
Next up is a video that shows a great way to find more keywords you may be able to use in your posts either using Google or the paid tool. It’s one of my favorites.
After this is another video on optimizing your images for keywords. It’s very clear and easy to follow along to. It all makes good sense. There is some text under the video that provides a good outline of what is discussed in the video.
Next up is a great video on finding keywords for information type posts. As well as showing you it also gives some great tips on how to think about finding keywords that you won’t find just by typing a keyword into Google or keyword tool.
Next up is about product review type keywords. It got some good tips on what to look for in the paid keyword tool and the keywords to select. You are then taken to an actual post published on Lesley’s blog which is great to see.
I always like looking at actual examples. They make it seem more real to me.
But there is a lot more than just the keywords there is great information on writing the content and how that helps with ranking for more than just the keywords you selected. Plenty to think about in this video – it is only just over 12 minutes long but it is very important stuff. Definitely something to keep in mind to do as you write your content.
That’s it for today. I’m about 60% through the course.
My Thoughts So Far
The Pajama Affiliates Keyword Research and SEO Tutorials for Beginners. I’m getting so really good stuff from the course so I agree with the testimonial on the sales page that is great for people with some SEO knowledge already as well as for beginners.
The techniques taught are great and simple to follow but I think more important is the way to think about the keywords and what they mean. Plus there is what you need to be providing in your posts to give them the best chance to rank.
It could do with some more explanation of what you are looking for on the keyword tool and some more explanation on how to use some of the secondary keywords in your post.
That aside, I’m very impressed with the course so far and I’m looking forward to going through the rest of it and implementing it as I go on new posts and existing ones too.
