In the last week something happened that I’ve been waiting for. The first sale from my Straight Line review site. It has been a cause for celebration. Especially as it was starting to feel that it was never going to happen.
I started working on this site at the beginning of January 2014 as part of Erica’s coaching course that the Straight Line assignments are from, so I have had Erica help that was in addition to the course itself – that was for the first 3 months, since then I’ve been on my own.
The results are:
Google visits are slowly increasing with the better rankings and clicks to Amazon are rising too. And best of all is the sale. It was for the product that was clicked on from my site – a shame they didn’t want anytihng else. The click for the product was from a post that is not included in the top 5 most visited.
Top 5 pages visited in the past week are:
Info Post 7 – 73 visits
Info Post 9 – 65 visits
Info Post 1 – 29 visits
Review 10 – 15 visits
Info Post 14 – 12 visits
In the last 2 weeks I’ve found working on the site difficult and you can see that by the fact there are no new posts. It’s sustaining the belief that it will work for me that has proved difficult. I’ve started to think it wouldn’t happen for me on this. So I started to wallow in self-doubt but it now appears that my time on this hasn’t been wasted – missing NCIS and repeats of Stargate SG-1 may have been worth it after all. And I may just have found the way out of Groundhog Day as I mentioned in my previous update.
This is the first site I’ve built without building any backlinks at all. In my previous sites I’ve managed to get them to start producing an income only to see that income disappear very quickly due to the links and my content. Despite not doing that with this site it still preys on my mind.
Anyway, enough of that. What now?
My objective for the Amazon review site is to build it out to earn $1,000 per month as I think there is enough potential to get to this and beyond. I’ll continue to use the Straight Line strategy of adding in-depth reviews and information posts. I want to be adding one of these a week until the end of the year.
Along with that I will continue building out my Pinterest board in line with the Pinplosion strategy to see if I can see more people visiting the site via Pinterest. As I note in my Pinplosion update some of the pins are ranking on the first pages of Google.
So it will be more of the same but hopefully with more sales coming in. I will update this case study every 4 weeks from now on unless something major happens like a great leap forward in sales.
My view on Straight Line is that it does work but you do need to be patient and determined and give as much as you can in your posts – so that real value is given to your visitors.
